Member-Produced Webinar: “Operating Distributed Energy at Scale: What It Takes to Turn DERs into Consumer Flexibility” with Codibly and Enode

DATE: May 27, 2026 | TIME: 10 am ET

By Spencer Borison, President of US, Codibly

Utilities and DR program operators want more than they’ve ever wanted before. Enroll the EVs. Enroll the residential batteries. Bring in the heat pumps, the smart water heaters, the connected thermostats, and — increasingly — the behind-the-meter solar and the commercial loads.

Standards help. The maturity of OpenADR, IEEE 2030.5, OCPP, and the growing SunSpec ecosystem means the protocol conversations that dominated the last decade are, in most cases, no longer the binding constraint. Open device APIs from OEMs have gone from rare to expected. And yet the gap is real, and it is not a protocol gap. It is a software architecture gap.

Turning a thousand connected devices into a dispatchable, contract-grade flexibility resource is a different discipline than connecting them in the first place. The integration layer has to reconcile multiple OEM APIs, enforce program eligibility at enrollment, deliver measurement and verification quality, and recognize how rules change across markets/states. That’s before you add multi-asset orchestration across EVs, chargers, batteries, heat pumps, and solar inverters in the same household.

What we at Codibly have found is that half-measures don’t scale, VPP pilots are just pilots, and getting to scale requires a more meaningful approach before execution. This is the conversation we’re going to host a webinar on in May with our friends at Enode.

On Wednesday, May 27, 2026 (10:00 AM EDT / 7:00 AM PDT), Codibly and Enode will be hosting a joint conversation and Q&A session titled Operating Distributed Energy at Scale: What It Takes to Turn DERs into Consumer Flexibility. Enode’s Odin Sørensen and William Mai will join me to talk through what it actually takes to operate DER programs at scale and where software architecture can be a blocker or an enabler to progress.

REGISTRATION: codibly × enode — operating distributed energy at scale (may 27)

The Codibly team will also be at PLMA in Indianapolis (May 11–13), and we would love to dive into this further.
