Four exceptional initiatives provide advanced learning opportunities for the energy industry.
Kansas City, MO – May 7, 2025 – PLMA, A Flexible Load Management Community, today announced the winners of its newly updated 2025 Awards of Excellence. This industry awards program, held annually, recognizes utilities, industry partners, and experts who have demonstrated exceptional innovation, leadership, and dedication to advancing flexible load management practices.
These initiatives and their teams were selected for PLMA’s 2025 Awards:
- Arizona Public Service & Energy Hub:
“APS’ VPP & Load Shaping: Enhancing Reliability through Customer Collaboration” - Baltimore Gas and Electric & WeaveGrid:
“BGE’s Smart Charge Management Program” - California Public Utilities Commission & Energy Solutions:
“TECH Clean California Heat Pump Water Heater (SGIP* HPWH) Program” - Sacramento Municipal Utility District & DNV:
“Telematics-based Residential Managed EV Charging Program”
“To qualify, a nominee’s efforts in the previous calendar year will have significantly impacted the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of energy systems,” explained PLMA Awards Co-Chair Kevin Knight of Baltimore Gas and Electric. “As a result, the PLMA awards recognize those who have achieved excellence by setting new standards for the energy industry, specifically in flexible load management.”
Through the efforts of 20 volunteer judges, all of whom are PLMA member practitioners, each award nomination is carefully vetted by a group of industry peers. “The winning initiatives illustrate effective approaches to meeting flexible energy loads while helping to support a stable, DER-integrated electric grid. They also offer valuable learning opportunities for this industry by demonstrating accomplishment and possibility,” said PLMA Awards Co-Chair Michael Ohlsen of Tallahassee Electric.
Because lessons learned by each winning initiative provide valuable perspectives for consideration and adaptation by other energy professionals, PLMA hosts a series of webinars in which the winning teams present a 1-hour educational webinar for all industry stakeholders.
The PLMA Award Series of webinars will be broadcast from June through November 2025 and will also be published on PLMA’s YouTube channel for the benefit of energy professionals everywhere. The webinar schedule will be published on PLMA’s Calendar.
